THE RIPPLE EFFECT: PANDEMIC AND EDUCATION

Image
The COVID-19 pandemic has cast a profound impact on every facet of society, and perhaps one of the most significant arenas it has reshaped is education. This blog delves into the multifaceted ways in which the pandemic has affected education worldwide. The Shift to Remote Learning: The closure of schools and universities prompted a rapid shift to remote learning. Virtual classrooms became the new norm, testing the adaptability of educators, students, and parents alike. Widening Educational Inequalities: The pandemic laid bare existing educational inequalities. Students from low-income households faced hurdles in accessing the necessary technology for online learning, exacerbating the educational divide.                                                                   Impact on Mental Health: The abrupt shift to remote...

ABORTION RIGHTS IN RUSSIA

Image
” It is often claimed that Russia isn’t traditional and Christian but degenerate and decadent because of its high abortion rates.”   Soviet women commonly resorted to abortion as a way to end unwanted pregnancies. In the post-Soviet decades, the emergence of a market economy, the availability of modern contraceptive methods, and increased knowledge about contraception have all contributed to improving sexual culture. The number of abortions has decreased significantly and would have declined even more rapidly were it not for certain issues, among them the absence of a system of sex education. But in 1920, rate of abortion has been increased.            RUSSIAN FEDERATION Law No. 5487-1 of 22 July 1993 on Fundamentals of Russian Federation Legislation on Public Health Care. Article 36.  Artificial abortion Every woman has the right to decide independently the question of motherhood. Artificial abortions are performed ...

Difference Between Indian Healthcare And Other Countries

Image
Dalai Lama perfectly quoted, “Happiness is the highest form of health.” And when we talk about health it covers all the aspects in every field.  It should come as no surprise that the  health care systems  of other countries and  India  differ in many ways. One of the biggest differences between the other countries and India is in the public health arena. There’s not enough spent on safe water, sanitation, and nutrition. Only 25% of the population has access to sanitation. At a human level, this is a real problem. Part of the problem is that India lacks “social solidarity”—a sense that people should take care of other people—and this has resulted in a health system rife with inequities. In India Hospitals and Clinics are managed by Government and private bodies. 75% of the hospitals and clinics are run by the respective state governments providing primary, secondary and tertiary health care.  In other countries, health care is almost ...

Racism in India

Image
“In a racist society it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.” — Angela Davis  In February of 2016, a Tanzanian student in Bangalore was pulled out of her car, assaulted and stripped by an angry mob after a 35-year-old pedestrian was knocked down by a Sudanese student in another car. This horrific incident added fuel to the “India is racist” debate, with light being shone on various other indicators of our racial intolerance as a country. Terms such as “colonial hangover” and “xenophobia” flew across social media, and the hypocrisy of our intolerance was pointed out since Indians travelling abroad often complain about white-world countries discriminating against them for being “brown.” Now, we have yet another painful indicator of our violent shortcomings with the horrific mob attack of several Nigerian students in Greater Noida, around 40kms from Delhi. At least four of them had been admitted to the hospital at the time of writing this article. In the days leadi...

MENTAL HEALTH

Image
MENTAL HEALTH “The strongest people are those who win battles we know nothing about.”                                                                         Mental health is an integral and essential component of health. The WHO constitution states: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” An important implication of this definition is that mental health is more than just the absence of mental disorders or disabilities. “Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”. Poor mental health is also associated with rapid social change, stressful ...
